THE MLB has numerous changes coming into the 2024 season.

And among the tweaks regard the pitch clock and first base.

Last season, the MLB focused on helping the pace of the game by implementing numerous changes, including a pitch clock.

In 2023, the league saw nine-inning games average 2 hours and 39 minutes, which was down nearly 25 minutes from the 2022 season.

The Competition Committee voted on bringing more changes to help the pace, which include shortening the pitch clock with runners on base.

Previously, pitchers had a full 20 seconds to throw the next pitch with a runner on base.

Pitchers will have just 18 seconds to perform the same duties.

The pitch clock will also restart after a "dead ball", which is when the ball is out of play, and when the pitcher gets the ball.

Previously, the clock would start when the pitcher reached the mound.

The pitch clock will remain at 15 seconds for pitchers with no runners on base.

Another change for the MLB is the runner's lane towards first base will be widened.

The space is expanding to include the dirt area between the foul line and the grass on the field, which will add 18 to 24 inches to the runner's lane.

The MLB's intention of the rule change is to allow batters "a more direct path to first base while retaining protection from interference."

Another change to the 2024 MLB regular season includes a new rule that states that any pitcher who warms up at the start of an inning has to throw to at least one batter before being taken out of the game.

And mound visits have been reduced from five to four per game.

An extra mound visit will be given in the ninth inning if the defensive team has zero left at the end of the eighth inning.

All 30 MLB teams will be in action for Opening Day on March 28.
